Universal ISM Band FSK Transceiver with HF Wake-Up Receiver

Integration's IA4520 is a member of the EZRadio® product line, which produces a flexible, low cost, and highly integrated solution that does not require production alignments and ensures low BOM and easy design-in. It is a single chip, low power, multi-channel FSK transceiver with an integrated very low power wake-up receiver. This receiver provides true wake-on-radio capability.

The UHF ISM FSK transceiver is designed for use in applications requiring FCC, ETSI or ARIB conformance for unlicensed use in the 315, 433, 868 and 915 MHz bands. Providing the same performance as Integration's IA4420 it has all RF functions integrated. It can be connected directly to selective differential antennas without matching network and transmit/receive switch.

The HF wake-up receiver is optimized for operation in the 13.56 MHz band and reception (demodulation) of pulse position modulated ASK signals as described in ISO 15693. It is designed to interface a single-ended, high quality factor, tuned inductive antenna. Autonomous low duty-cycle operation is possible using the internal timer.

A common SPI compatible digital interface lets the user program the parameters of the transceiver, the wake-up receiver and the auxiliary circuits. It is also used to read/write data from/to the transceiver and access status information.

The IA4520 is an ideal device whenever an ISM data link has to be used due to range, antenna size, and data rate requirements but the following boundary conditions apply:

Battery operation with very long lifetime (infrequent servicing or disposable device).
Very low duty cycle, unpredictable activation times, and the need for fast response
Contact-less application method preferred

A typical case is the active RFID tag, which is a quickly expanding market to track assets and control inventory in order to streamline logistics, prevent theft, etc. Apart from this, various telemetry, remote control and data logging applications including remote meter reading can benefit from the features of the IA4520.
